Why do you think your character would work in this setting?
At first, Alec may have a difficult time adapting to this setting, especially since he will flux into New Dodge, but once he finds a role in town that allows him to be a protector, then Alec will work hard to be part of the community and to keep others safe. When he was a child, he vowed to the Angel that he would protect those who could not defend themselves. He takes this duty seriously. If someone needs him, he will be there to offer as much support as possible. If others are in danger, Alec will do everything possible to help them, not just because it is his sacred duty but because he truly wants to help others. If he has people he cares about or if he's needed in New Dodge to protect others, he can find his place even in a situation that wasn't his choice.
How do you plan to expand their CR?
Alec is an introvert, which will make his interactions with others difficult, but he has been working on his social skills. Because of his relationships with Magnus, Clary, and his other friends, Alec is learning to interact with others and not to hide even when social situations are uncomfortable for him. He will never be a social butterfly, but he will push himself to make friends. He may have lived in a small group, but he likes being around others. He'll miss having a group of people to spend time with. He also feels more comfortable with beings that he calls Downworlders - those who are supernatural beings or know about the supernatural - and will seek them out once he realizes that there other non-humans in town.

Staring out the window, Alec wasn’t sure how he should react to seeing what looked like a landscape that looked like a cross between a western and a sci-fi movie outside the glass instead of Brooklyn. He should be angry or frustrated by the sudden change in his surroundings, but instead it was just lonely. He was in a world like the one the movies that he watched with his friends. He could almost hear Simon’s voice adding one of those monologues from the sci-fi series he said they had to see while Izzy gave him an annoyed look that couldn’t hide how much she cared about him. Alec would have pretended that Simon’s fandom references went over his head but he would have understood it because he’d watched the series with Magnus on one of their first dates.

Magnus. If some weird cosmic force had decided it needed Alec, then why hadn’t it decided it wanted Magnus and Alec’s family as well? They should all be here. By the Angel, he missed them. Automatically, his hand went to the parabatai rune on his side. Closing his eyes, he focused on the bond, faint but steady, proving that Jace was alive and safe. That meant the rest of them were as well. Jace would protect them. He’d keep them going, keep them safe, until they were all together again.
Jace was probably driving Magnus crazy while they searched for him. The thought made Alec chuckle despite the hollow ache in his chest. Maybe they’d be the next ones to arrive. If anyone could find a way to track him down, to join him here, it’d be those two. Then Clary, Izzy, and Simon would follow.
The thought made it a little bit easier to deal with the loss. Eventually, they’d be with him. Sighing, he scrubbed a hand through his hair, not noticing how it spiked upward, and then moved toward the desk. Sitting down, he opened one of the journals he’d found in the market. The gold cover seemed appropriate for Magnus. The others were for the rest of his family, the colors carefully selected because of some memory that was important to Alec.
Picking up the pen, he stared at the blank page. Magnus might never see the journals, but assuming that meant giving up hope. Alec refused to do that. Someday, he’d see them again.
Someday.
Reassured by that thought, he began to write.
Dear Magnus…
