It'd been a stupid thing to do. Izzy and Jace had given him the spell book as a joke. The thing looked old but his siblings were sure that it was fake. It was just some new age book that had been stained and beaten up to look authentic. Alec hadn't been so sure, but one night when they were all too drunk to know better, Alec had recited the words of one of the spells. Of course it'd been him. He was the only one who knew Latin and if magic was real, he wasn't going to let it effect his siblings.
At first they assumed nothing happened, laughing over the paper cut that Alec had given himself when Church had knocked over the stack of DVDs sitting on the coffee and Alec had sliced his finger on a page. It was a jump scare, but nothing dangerous had happened. It wasn't until later... when Alec was alone that he realized that the book was real.
Which was how he ended up with an incubus in his apartment. an incredibly beautiful, hot incubus that decided that Alec was his next snack. When Alec panicked and somehow managed to keep from falling into bed - or whatever convenient surface the demon could find - Magnus eventually quit trying to get him naked. Temporarily of course.
Instead he decided that he was Alec's new roommate. Alec tried to convince Magnus that the summoning was an accident. He tried to banish him. Nothing worked. Since the arcane hadn't succeeded, Alec tried a simpler method. Stretched out on the couch, he studiously ignored the incubus, trying to read his textbook instead of ogle his new 'roommate'.

It might be a trick, but Alec wanted it to be true. He wanted Magnus to not mind a quiet evening of watching movies instead of the too loud, sensory overload that his friends preferred. "I'd like that. We could order take out, unless you still want to go out. I don't mind." He sounded like an idiot. Why couldn't he stop rambling? "I don't mind going out. I don't even mind some clubs. I just don't like the ones Izzy and Jace always go to."
no subject
Besides, he liked human movies, when he got the chance to see them. They were all so ridiculous in their ways, especially the horror ones.
"It's in my nature to be fickle," he says with a slight smile. "But a movie... sounds good."
no subject
Magnus might eventually make him dinner, but he wasn't like the demons in the shows he watched late at night. He wasn't trying to murder everyone around him. Just seduce them.
"Since you're the one who's fickle, then you get to choose the movie." Tugging on his sleeve again, he glanced at the door, then at Magnus, flushing slightly. "Do you want to get something to eat first or order take out?" If they went out, would it be a date? A date. With a demon. Why didn't that sound awful like it was supposed to?
no subject
So he grinned and shook his head. "Take out sounds find. Thai, though, if you're up for it. Something spicy. I don't get a chance to indulge in human food often."
no subject
"I have a menu somewhere." The blush felt like it was getting worse as he headed for the kitchen to find the menu for the local place that was his favorite. Hopefully Magnus would like it too. "I like spicy too, unless Izzy's cooking. Never eat anything she makes." He paused, paper in hand, as he realized what Magnus said. "You know you don't have to stay here. If there's things you want to see or if you want to get food. I could give you some money - We could figure out a ways to make sure you didn't get in trouble."
no subject
Magnus grinned rakishly as he followed Alec to the kitchen and leaned against the counter. "I'm made for trouble, Alexander," he purred. "There would be no stopping me once I got outside."
no subject
"I know, but that doesn't mean that you should be stuck in one place." It was probably foolish of him to suggest that Magnus leave the apartment, but it also wasn't fair to keep him basically imprisoned. And maybe he'd find someone who was more interesting since Magnus had to be bored with a geek who preferred poetry and small clubs instead of raves. "You shouldn't be unhappy because I'm the one who summoned you."
Offering the menu to Magnus, Alec reminded himself that Magnus was going to spend the evening with him and he should try to make it a better date than the disasters he usually had. "What's your favorite?"
no subject
Ah, right. Basically him, a dozen times.
He wrinkled his nose slightly and amended: "It's just not what I'm used to. I get cranky when I don't know..." Why was he saying this, exactly? Why was he revealing something of himself right now?
"I'm so used to other people being in control, so to speak. Or to having a cut and dry mission, desire. I get cranky when things are up in the air."
no subject
Okay, he did want to have sex with Magnus. Anyone who was even slightly interested in men would want to have sex with Magnus. He was the type that Alec would fantasize about if he was imaginative enough to think up someone as gorgeous as Magnus.
"If I give you a mission, you can go back?" Alec wasn't sure if that would be good or bad. He doubted that Magnus wanted to stay with him but Alec doubted that he wanted to return to whatever dimension demons lived in. "Would you prefer that?"
no subject
But at the same time... "A vacation from hell isn't exactly a bad thing," he pointed out with a slight, almost shy smile. "Maybe we deal with the mission later and for right now focus on the Thai and movie."
no subject
If he was a normal guy, he wouldn't be interested in Alec. Would he?
Noticing the smile, he tried to ignore the way his heart stuttered. Or the way his gaze lingered on Magnus' lips. "I'm glad that I'm a better alternative than hell." Was that a bad thing to say? It probably was. "Uh - can a date be a mission or is that something that's free will for you?"
no subject
"It's up to you, I suppose," he says. "If you order me to do it, then... that's a mission. But as it stands... It's just something that I want to do."
no subject
"You want to have a date with me." It almost sounded like a question, and he couldn't hide the smile that the thought caused. The first open smile that he'd given Magnus since the incubus had been summoned to the apartment. "It's not an order. I don't want to give you orders. You shouldn't be forced to do things." He was rambling. He needed to stop before he embarrassed himself or Magnus changed his mind about the date. "I'd like it to be a date."
no subject
What is with him? He's just enjoying this freedom too much.
"Then." He clears his throat, smiling shyly. Yes, shyly. "It's a date."
It's not lost on him that Alec says, too, that he shouldn't be forced to do things. That's... nice. In a way that no one has ever been to him.
no subject
He stared a little too long at Magnus' lips. flushing brighter as he offered Magnus the menu. "Uh - dinner? Do you want something specific or should we order a bunch of different things to try?"
no subject
"Or is that too adventurous for you?" he teases gently from behind the menu, cat-eyes alight with good humor.
no subject
Pausing, he started pointing at items on the menu. "These are my favorites. I haven't tried the squid yet but Izzy keeps daring me to."
no subject
Truthfully, this Izzy did sound like the more exciting of the Lightwoods, but Alec had his own undeniable charm that Magnus was finding harder and harder to resist.
"And I've never been to a club like that. Granted, I haven't been to too many clubs in this day and age, but I tend more towards the..." He waves his hand in the same vague gesture that Alec had. "... ones."
no subject
He paused, thinking of all the things that Magnus probably hadn't seen but might be interested in. "We can go to the louder ones." Alec could deal with his discomfort for an evening when they were both trying to find ways to compromise. "But I don't know how to dance at those clubs. I only know the older steps." Which was something Alec shouldn't think about since he was imagining what it'd be like to dance with Magnus.
Glancing away, he tried to fight back a blush. "We could try one of the quieter clubs too. Someplace that you can hear the music, feel the emotion that they're pouring into the song." Magnus probably would think that was stupid, but music had been his refuge for years and his love for it sometimes crept out at odd times.
no subject
"Dancing at those clubs is not that hard, you know." Magnus moved to hop onto the kitchen counter, totally at ease now, totally willing and ready to tease Alec while he ordered the food.
"I can teach you. It's just finding the rhythm. Moving with your hips." There was a wink there. "Much the same as the slower music.
Though, you're right," he allowed. "There's something to be said for more feeling in the music."
no subject
"Sure it's not," he answered with a roll of his eyes. Alec was sure he could be graceful since he'd learned enough martial arts to make that aspect of dancing easy. It was being that close to a stranger that he hadn't enjoyed.
That wouldn't be a problem with Magnus. Keeping his hands off Magnus would be the problem if he danced like that. "I don't think that's the same as a waltz." It'd been just as scandalous in its time but he couldn't think of it as erotic compared to the dancing Magnus described.
"I'll have to take you to one of the clubs so you can see that I'm right." He had an idea of which might work. The hole in the wall place he snuck off to when Izzy didn't ask him to go clubbing with her.
Grabbing his phone, he dialed the number for the restaurant and began ordering their dinner, including the squid and whatever spicy foods seemed appealing. "Anything else?" he mouthed, holding the menu so that Magnus could point at anything he wanted.
no subject
"It starts with a waltz," Magnus says with a rakish grin. "You know once upon a time a waltz was a very scandalous dance. Spinning around like that. It was supposed to drive a lady wild."
He listened to Alec's order then shook his head when he asked if he wanted more. They were well taken care of. He waited until Alec was back off the phone to continue.
"Do you have anything like club music here? I could show you here instead of in a loud, obnoxious club."
no subject
Ending the call, he set the phone down, surprised when Magnus asked about club music. "I think so? If I don't have any of it on my computer, we can find it. There's radio stations that play it." Occasionally he'd tried to listen to it at a more manageable level to see if he liked it when he wasn't being deafened.
But would it be a good idea to let Magnus show him that? If he did, Alec might be tempted to do something dangerous. Especially when his guard was already slipping. The problem was wanting to do it. He wanted to be close to Magnus and see if the incubus might like him as more than just a snack. Stepping closer to Magnus so that he could prove to himself that he could be near the demon without losing control, he took a deep breath, knowing he was making a terrible decision. "Just dancing?"
no subject
Not that Magnus was in any way, shape, or form a gentleman, but Alec drove him a little wild, too.
Case in point: He watched Alec step forward with wide cat eyes, taking in the young man and the bold way in which he seemed to close the distance between them. Magnus wanted to reach out and grab him. But there was something to be noticed, too, in the way that Alec breathed in to calm himself.
Was it really so terrible to be near Magnus?
He stifled that thought -- of course it is -- and grinned.
"That's all I'm suggesting," he said. If more happened then....
no subject
Biting his lower lip, he reminded himself of all the reasons why he had to be careful around Magnus. And why it was a terrible idea to try to prove that his self-control could hold when he was so close to the demon. Usually when he was near Magnus, he had to fight the urge to kiss his roommate. Now, he was captivated by the gold and green of Magnus' eyes. "Your eyes are beautiful." Wait, that wasn't what he was supposed to say. "Uh - I mean I would like to learn to dance."
