When Simon's hand shifted to his back, Alec pulled him closer to that there was barely any space between them. Simon had told him that slow dancing meant being able to touch. "I'm glad the fireflies invited you."
Part of him wished that he was more like his siblings. That he wasn't so cautious. Then he'd take more risks, maybe let his hands move from Simon's hips to explore. "There's nowhere else I want to be, Simon."

Because he hadn't. What had grown between him and Alec was so very precious and so completely unexpected it couldn't have been planned.
"Or that you would be racing to meet me because of a promised kiss?"
He hadn't forgotten the kiss. Not even for a second.

But Alec didn't regret that it wasn't Jace he was dancing with. Something had changed, the infatuation turning to something that strengthened the bond between Alec and his parabatai. Something that had him falling for the Mundane - Vampire - that had become one of his closest friends.
"I never imagined myself dancing with anyone. Not willingly." The words were accompanied by a soft smile that few every saw but Simon had started coaxing from him when he'd offered to show Alec the best comic shops in the city. "I figured you'd hate all Shadowhunters."
Wrapping his arms around Simon's waist, he tipped his head so that he was almost kissing his boyfriend. "That wasn't the only reason I raced here."

"I didn't hate all Shadowhunters. I just felt a strong dislike of blond Shadowhunters." He grinned, remembering how rough everyone's relationships were in the beginning. Now he wouldn't trade any of them for anything, not even for his humanity.
Being a Vampire didn't change the way he reacted to being held. At least, not completely. His heart didn't race and he didn't feel his face burn. But he could imagine it happening and he could feel the anticipation, the desire. And then he could feel his fangs.

As he spoke, his gaze lingered on Simon's lips. He'd wanted to see Simon tonight, not caring if he got that kiss as long as they were together. It was something he wanted, thinking about what it'd be like more often than he should especially when he found himself thinking about it during meetings, but he would be patient. They both were both learning, trying to figure out the details of being together.
Details like the fangs that made a sudden appearance.
His breath caught before he remembered Simon would notice. He'd sense the shift in his breathing and the way his heart started racing. But would he realize that it wasn't fear that caused that reaction? Desire and fear might seem the same to a new vampire. Instead of kissing his lips, Alec placed a kiss beneath Simon's ear. "I don't mind kissing you with your fangs out."

"I could accidentally bite you." He said softly, trying to focus on making his fangs go away. "And then I'd be the one in the closet. Jace would think I was trying to eat you."
It was a weak attempt at teasing so he held Alec tightly. "Sometimes I miss having a pulse."

If he wasn't trying to calm Simon down, he would have let out an annoyed snort at the idea of Jace having to defend his honor. "What if I want you to eat me?" It might be too soon to suggest that but maybe it'd surprise Simon enough that he wouldn't worry so much.
The happiness he'd felt turned to aching guilt as he considered how much his boyfriend lost. Simon told him that he didn't blame Alec, but he couldn't help feeling like it was his fault. Holding Simon as tightly as he dared, Alec rested his cheek against dark hair. "I'm sorry I didn't realize you needed us."
