Alec wasn't sure why he liked having people watch him when he was with Magnus. It wasn't possessiveness. He'd learned that feelings like that were dangerous, leading to darker emotions that he knew would cause him to lose the person he loved most. It wasn't pride and Alec knew that after years of thinking he'd have his marks stripped for who he was, he should have been terrified by the idea of someone seeing him be intimate with Magnus. Instead, he loved being able to kiss his husband - he hadn't ever thought that would be possible - in public. Every expression of their feelings that wasn't hidden made him feel alive, making his relationship with Magnus seem more real.
Magnus had spent weeks thinking Alec would never come out of the closet and now they were at a club, dressed obviously as a couple, talking about putting on a show for anyone who was curious.
The thought made him laugh as he realized how different things were now. He was about to tease Magnus about the changes a few months had created when his husband found a certain spot on his neck. For a moment his attention wavered, breath catching as Magnus pulled him toward the bar. It was almost embarrassing how anticipation and Magnus knowing exactly where to kiss him to distract him from anything that wasn't related to the two of them. There wouldn't be much of a show if it was that easy for his husband to get him to react.
At least he had his stele hidden away, just in case.
"They're going to be heartbroken over both of us being taken." Catching Magnus' hand, he quickly kissed his wedding ring. "And no third," he teased. They'd never discussed it and it wasn't something Alec had thought about no matter how many offers they'd had at the expo. "Tonight is just for us."
Their shared exhibitionist kink was actually somewhat new for Magnus who had never felt as secure in a relationship as he did with Alec. In the past, the thought of putting on a show with a lover would make him feel jealous, as if his attention wasn't enough for the person who was meant to care only about his affections. But with Alec, there was no sense of being worth less because of the desire to have an audience. Instead it felt like the opposite effect, like Alec had so much love that he couldn't stand to keep it all to himself. It made Magnus' skin tingle and his heart sing to think that they could share the thrill of public displays while still belonging only to each other.
Alec had never been secretive about their relationship, as far as Magnus remembers, and the main struggle had been getting him to admit that he had an attraction in the first place. But he'd always been proud of Magnus, and of their relationship, and it was something that carried through to their marriage and the mischief they'd been getting up to in the past week. It brought his memories back to their time at the expo and inspired a shiver that ran from the balls of his feet up to the base of his neck. Alec had been possessive then, and Magnus' attention had been fully on him despite the people walking by them.
Humming in reply as he swallowed thickly, trying to get his tongue to work again, he smirked up at Alec and squeezed his hip where he was resting a hand. "No one but you and me," he replied, eyes shining as he watched Alec kiss the ring that had previously been his. Even if other people viewed it as a simple design, lacking the traditional Mundane diamonds and gold, Magnus wore the Lightwood ring more proudly than the entirety of every other piece of jewelry he owned. "Would you like a drink first, angel? Not that we need it to build up courage, but I do love trying to find something you enjoy other than wine."
Looking over at Magnus, he studied his husband for a moment for any sign that he was uncomfortable with what they were going to do tonight. If either one of them changed their mind, they'd find another way to spend their evening alone. They'd reassured each other that there'd be no disappointment, no guilt over the night not going as intended. Their tryst at the expo had hinted that there wouldn't be any shyness here, but Alec needed to be sure. Others hadn't treated Magnus with the respect and love he deserved. Alec would do everything he could to make sure that Magnus never felt that way with him.
Watching his husband, he saw the signs that Magnus was enjoying the thought of their night together as much as Alec was. Smiling softly before beginning to kiss each fingertip, he nipped gently when Magnus' hand tightened on his hip. Letting go after he kissed Magnus' palm, he chuckled when Magnus mentioned his limited interest in alcohol. "This afternoon I think we proved that we don't need extra courage." Leaning in he nibbled on Magnus' ear before tugging on one of his earrings. "Do you think anyone saw us? We were quiet but someone might have noticed us. They could have seen us together, watched me take you apart and we wouldn't have known it."
When he was sure that Magnus had considered his description and was distracted by it, he began leading his husband toward the bar. Magnus teased him often enough that Alec enjoyed the rare times that he got to reverse the situation and get his husband turned on by some erotic suggestion or memory of what they had done together.
As they neared the bar, some fragment of memory caught him. Seelies teasing him and a glass of something in his hand. Not wine. Something else. "Jägermeister," he said before he'd even realized what the detail had been that he'd suddenly remembered. "We shared a bottle of it once. You said it meant master hunter so I should taste it."
Magnus' eyes started to close as Alec paid tiny attentions to his hand, relaxing him in ways that he hadn't expected. When he softly bit his thumb, Magnus chuckled and pressed it against his lower lip to playfully drag it down. "You're my brave prince," he confirmed, breath hitching at the end of the statement as Alec turned his focus to Magnus' ear. Though he hadn't thought he'd be completely in the lead for the night, it made Magnus' stomach flip at how confident Alec was with touching him and aiming right for his weaknesses. Moaning softly, more shivers running through him as Alec's teeth grazed the shell of his ear, Magnus' hand fell lower on Alec's side and started to slip beneath the waistband of his pants. "Someone must have," he breathed, voice tight with lust. Even if they'd been relatively discreet, there are been too many people for them to go completely unnoticed.
He was easily guided to the bar by Alec's strong hand, trusting him to lead the way to the ends of the earth and beyond if needed. They were both in a good mood already, and Magnus hoped that it would just continue to climb as they spent the night together in ways they'd only ever discussed. "Jäger?" he echoed, looking up at Alec with eyes wide in surprise. Chuckling, he leaned over to kiss Alec beneath the ear. "I don't remember. But it suits you, though I'm curious about your current prey," he teased lightly while waving over a bartender to place their order.
Breath catching as Magnus teased his lip, Alec tried not to get too distracted by fantasies of what they could do together when they had a whole evening to themselves. They'd discussed this before but after the expo and Magnus saying he was okay with Alec getting a little possessive... He was surprised that he had any inhibitions left. "If I'm the prince, does that mean you're the sorcerer that helps him become the hero?" The description was more accurate than they both would probably admit in the middle of a club. Magnus had been the one who had helped him become a better person, braver than he ever would have been if he'd been alone. Kissing along Magnus' neck, he smiled at the change in Magnus' voice, making a soft sound when somehow Magnus' fingers slipped under tight leather. "They would have seen how beautiful you look when you come." Nipping at a spot that he planned to mark later, Alec nuzzled his husband's neck. "They'd begin to understand how lucky I am to be married to you."
He hated pulling away, but they wouldn't enjoy their plans as much if they started too soon. Even if Alec didn't quite have the taste for alcohol that Magnus did, he liked tasting it on Magnus' lips. As they waited to order, Alec felt a brief pang of disappointment when Magnus didn't remember that party. For a moment, the idea of Magnus forgetting that night hurt, but he reminded himself that their memories had been tampered with. It didn't mean that Magnus would forget him or that he'd ever stop loving him. Alec wouldn't let a moment of concern ruin their date, not when he knew the loss of the memory was temporary.
"Eventually you will," Alec promised, shivering at the kiss. "It was one of the first times I said yes to wearing glitter." That should motivate his husband to remember that party. Leaning against the bar as Magnus ordered, he caught his husband's hand, threading his fingers between Magnus'. "Hm... my current prey is intelligent, thoughtful, charming and I'm completely in love with him."
The possessiveness was indeed something new between them, and yet it didn't make Magnus uncomfortable the way it had in past relationships. Where before it made him feel like an object owned by his lover, making him into a kept man bought with gifts and affections, Alec was entirely different. His husband only ever wanted him as he was, and the possessive touches or words were like marks of their bond. To Magnus, wanting Alec to leave bite marks over his neck and chest was the same as painting each other with glittering gold symbols of their love for each other.
Humming thoughtfully at the analogy, he didn't get a chance to agree or point out the fact that Alec had possessed all the makings of a hero and only needed someone to help him find the courage to face his foes. Instead his mind was back to the expo, Alec's hands on him and his bigger body blocking out most of what he'd down to Magnus. "They'd see me come and realize how lucky I am to be married to you," he echoed, some of his eloquence lost in the way only Alec seemed to be good at drawing out. "You were the one making me feel that way, Alexander, but we only belong to each other."
He glanced over and caught sight of Alec's disappointed expression. Hand relaxing, still pressed against Alec's skin but with less intensity, he leaned in to kiss that look off of his handsome face. "I remember so much, sayang. Even when I didn't have my memories, they couldn't cut out my love for you." After all, Alec had been the first thing that Magnus remembered when he'd come to in the hospital, the only person he'd recognized and felt drawn to after they'd both woken up and stumbled around their false home.
"Plus, as an important first, I'm sure it'll come back to me," he reassured him. Ordering a shot of Jägermeister for both of them, he looked down at their hands and admired the way they fit together despite his copious amounts of rings. He could see his wedding ring glinting on Alec's fingers and felt a swell of love course through his veins, making his hand tighten around Alec's. "Such a skilled, handsome, kind, witty hunter should easily be able to woo a simple man, especially when he's already in love with you."
Nipping harder at Magnus' neck, he almost ignored his earlier resolve to wait to mark his husband. Especially when Magnus said that he was lucky to be Alec's husband. For a moment, he wished he remembered who had proposed, but that detail wasn't as important as both of them agreeing to be married. "Then we're both lucky, Magnus."
Smiling against Magnus' neck, his heart ached with happiness when his husband said that they belonged to each other. Magnus always had the right words, finding the phrase that explained the things that Alec struggled with. He'd been possessive before, not quite able to articulate his thoughts, but Magnus had found the perfect explanation. "I will always yours." No matter what happened to them, whatever might try to tear them apart, Alec would always be his. Grinning at his husband, he lifted Magnus' hand and kissed the ring that had once been his. "I'm going to make you feel that way again, Magnus. Everyone will watch us, see how we belong to each other."
Which was why the missing memory didn't sting as much as it would have months before. "No one could take this from us. Nothing could lessen my feelings for you. Our hearts were drawn together even when we didn't know our own names." Even if he'd had no memories of their life together Alec would have known that Magnus was the being he loved most.
"You'll remember it or we'll recreate that night. It didn't take much to get me drunk enough to agree to eyeliner and glitter." Leaning in he stole another kiss before beginning to play with one of Magnus' more elaborate rings, smiling softly when his husband's fingers tightened around his own. "I doubt anyone would call him simple, but the hunter appreciates knowing that his prey is in love with him and wants to be wooed."
Shivering at the firm press of teeth to his neck, he tightened his hand in Alec's. He wanted to pull him closer, fill up all the space between their bodies with words and soft moans. It was becoming increasingly difficult to stay patient, especially with memories fresh in his mind, but he'd told himself he'd wait and allow the night to unfold more slowly. He wanted to savor this, especially when they'd been talking about it for what felt like years. "We are, my love. Lucky to be together."
He let out a breath of disappointment when Alec pulled away and then schooled himself, given what he'd just decided mentally about savoring each moment as it came. His heart clenched in his chest as Alec kissed his ring, the most precious one that Magnus wore despite the simple design of flames and monogram L at their heart. "I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine," he murmured, just loudly enough to be heard over the din of the club and his own racing heart.
As if he weren't already completely overwhelmed by his feelings for Alec, the poetry of his words would have pulled him beneath the waves of affection filling him up and threatening to spill over the edges of his being. "Alexander," he sighed, leaning in to kiss him fiercely. "I'd be drawn to you in any universe, under any circumstances," he said as firmly as he believed the truth of the words.
"You looked stunning," he said, confident of the fact even if he couldn't remember it. Gladly giving the kiss, he watched Alec toy with his rings as they waited for their drinks. He raised their hands and kissed Alec's knuckles before kissing the large ring bearing the monogram B. "He has already been wooed, our fearless hunter is quite the dreamboat." He grinned, reaching for their drinks as they arrived and lifting his towards Alec in a toast. "To us."
Alec could feel how much Magnus wanted to be with him. Not just the physical signs of desire, but the subtle hints that his husband wanted to be with him. The emotion reflected in his eyes and the way he touched Alec, the way they seemed drawn together as if the smallest distance between them was too much. He almost gave in to that force, but he knew that they both wanted to draw out the fantasy that they both had shared.
"Karissima." The endearment held all the love he couldn't put into words, the promises that Alec had sworn to himself once he realized how much he truly loved Magnus. Forever in the ways that he could give his husband. His heart was Magnus' in this life and whatever followed. "I will always yours."
Returning the kiss, he pulled Magnus closer, reflecting the feelings that had been in the gentle sound of his name and the passion his husband offered him. "And I'd be drawn to you. Different realities, lost memories, don't change what my soul knows."
Laughing softly at Magnus' compliment, he didn't mention that Magnus didn't remember how he looked so he couldn't be certain if that was true. But Alec remembered the way his boyfriend had looked at him even if alcohol had softened the edges of the memory. Magnus had thought he was beautiful, wearing gold to accent his eyes and his runes highlighted with the same shimmering color. "That doesn't mean that the chase isn't enjoyable, even when the hunter knows his prey wants to be caught." Lifting his glass, he smiled at Magnus, heart fluttering at how free he felt. How the two of them could play these flirtatious games without fear of someone trying to condemn them. "To us."
((ooc: The Lightwoods-Banes-Herondales visited the apartment on August 6th, the amnesia event was August 12th.))
The apartment was working out the way he had hoped even if his family occasionally acted like they expected the Devil to jump out of the closets or for Alec to start speaking in tongues. There was finally enough space for them all, enough for them to make their own little sanctuaries. There was enough room for books and music, Magnus' spells, and the Shadowhunters' weapons. It was close to perfect but Alec couldn't stop worrying.
Things weren't working out the way he'd thought. Not with a certain someone. Alec had been pretending to ignore it but a few days before something had happened that he knew Magnus needed to know about. In the rush of moving and settling in, he'd waited until they had a peaceful evening to finally talk to Magnus. When Alec was sure that all his siblings had settled in for the night, he waited for Magnus in their bedroom, knowing the wards would alert them if someone was nearby so that they could keep the conversation private.
Resting his back against the pillows and headboard, he waited for his husband while reading some book about dragons that the clerk at the bookshop had raved about. Setting the book aside when Magnus entered the room, he realized he had read the same page three times and had no idea what had happened. Another sign that they needed to deal with this. "Magnus, I need to talk to you about Jace."
As far as weird events in his life, Magnus had to admit that having Lucifer as his landlord was high on the list. But they had all been settling into life together, Magnus easily falling back into the ease of living with Alec and the comfort that came with waking up next to him every morning. Izzy, too, was a somewhat familiar presence in his domestic life thanks to the time she had spent living with them in Wayward Pines. It took a little used to having Max around, curious as he was, but Magnus found that he quite liked the youngest Lightwood and his innocent charm that hadn't been noticeable upon their first meeting back in New York. But of all the Lightwood siblings he was now living with, Jace was the hardest to read.
He'd been a guest for some time in Magnus' loft, and Magnus thought that it had ended with them understanding each other a little better. Even in the apartment they had shared since arriving, they had gotten along well enough. But every time Alec was involved, Jace seemed to change in ways that Magnus hadn't been able to identify for a while simply because he hadn't had the right frame of reference to base his observations off of. But after seeing Jace's reactions at the adult exhibition, and the masquerade, Magnus' paradigm had shifted and things had clicked into place. He still wasn't completely sure about what he saw or the meaning behind certain looks, but it was a thought growing larger and larger in the back of his mind.
It was that very thought which was on his mind as he stepped into their bedroom, and he was distracted enough for a moment that he didn't notice Alec on their bed. "Hey," he greeted with a smile before it faltered at Alec's words. Sighing softly, he shrugged off his jacket and went to hang it in the closet. "Always so straight and to the point," he teased good-naturedly, crossing to the bed so he could lean over and kiss Alec hello. "Though it may surprise you to know, I was just thinking about him."
Watching Magnus was always distracting. He moved with a grace that was similar to a Shadowhunters, but more cat-like. Not that Alec would say that since he knew how much his marks sometimes bothered him. But there was something similar in his movements, sleek and powerful even when Magnus was doing the most casual, mundane things.
When he was taking off his clothes... it was impossible for Alec not to lose his train of thought momentarily. Some of his distraction faded when Magnus hung up the jacket and didn't start removing the rest of his clothes, something that Alec was both relieved and disappointed over. He knew they had to talk but he always loved watching his husband, especially when he might be naked in the next few minutes. "I doubt straight is the right description for me," he teased, returning the kiss before smiling fondly at Magnus.
Scooting over so Magnus could sit beside him, Alec cupped the back of his husband's neck, rubbing lightly with his thumb. "He's been distracting lately." Which was one way to put it but wasn't the best explanation. Straight and too the point... Magnus always seemed to appreciate those traits in relation to Alec so he might as well just tell him what happened.
"You know how he's been about me lately. Not wanting me out of his sight. Afraid I'll disappear." Or die. "Curling up with me whenever he can. It's kind of escalated, Magnus. He - uh - he kissed me the other day. Not on the lips. I hugged him and he kissed the rune on my neck. I pretended not to realize what he'd done but - " Reaching out, he took Magnus' hand, threading his fingers between Magnus'. "I didn't want you to see something and think that I was cheating."
Magnus could practically feel Alec's eyes on him, the familiar weight of his gaze that still made Magnus shiver at times. He liked knowing that he was the one to draw Alec's attention, especially because it was a rare gift. Most nights he would take advantage of that focus and the way Alec's eyes would follow his movements, but Magnus knew that there were more important things to do purely based on Alec's expression. They clearly needed to talk, and while it would have been easy to shed his suit in favor of something more comfortable, or nothing at all, he merely loosened his tie and undid the top few buttons of his dress shirt before sitting next to Alec on the bed.
"Good point, though you won't hear any complaints coming from me," he teased back, closing his eyes for a moment just to bask in the comfort of having Alec's hand cupped against his neck. Reaching for his other hand, he laced his fingers with Alec's as a silent reassurance that he was there no matter what Alec had to say.
When the words started to spill from his husband, Magnus simply nodded because it fit with what he'd observed. Jace had been eager to please Alec in ways that Magnus hadn't witnessed before, and while a part of him wondered if it was simply because Clary wasn't around, he also knew that they'd shared a deep bond far earlier than the time either Magnus or Clary had arrived in their lives. He was about to say something when Alec admitted to the kiss, and despite himself, he reflexively gripped Alec's hand tighter. "Thank you for telling me," he replied after a moment, relaxing again. It was childish to be jealous, not only of Alec in general but of the rune as well. "And I'm glad you brought it up, Alexander. I no longer feel like my suspicions might be based on only subjective observations."
He didn't want this to end. He didn't want this warm, comfortable feeling between them to slip away. Sometime in the past it had been ruined. Not because of a serious conversation or interruptions from Alec's siblings. Harsh words and frustration had weakened their relationship before. Even if he only remembered bits... a ruined opera date, the two of them yelling at each other, or worse not yelling. His fears in Wayward Pines about not being able to make a marriage work since he only had his parents as a measure of normal.
He didn't want that to happen again. Even if this conversation might ruin one night, if everything was left unsaid, it would undermine their marriage.
"I didn't do anything," he blurted out, flushing when he realized he sounded like a child caught in the act. Even if there hadn't been an act. Alec hadn't done anything to encourage Jace. At least he didn't think he had. "You're welcome." Running his thumb along Magnus' hand, he waited for his husband's reaction, expecting anger or the coolness that Magnus had directed toward him in the past when they'd fought.
Except Magnus wasn't reacting the way Alec expected. There was none of that distance or the jealousy he'd felt toward Jace before. He acted like he expected this to happen. "What suspicions?" Did Magnus think that he was thinking of cheating? "Magnus, I love you. I don't want - I never expected him to... You're the one I love the most."
Though Magnus was unaware of the turmoil raging in Alec's mind, he knew enough about him and his family to be concerned. Alec had been raised by two parents who put their careers ahead of everything, including family and love. There had been lies and secrets, unreasonable expectations as well as unimaginable disappointments. And Magnus knew that Alec hadn't exactly had any positive relationship role models to guide him, not even prior experiences of his own to give him a starting point with Magnus. But it was because Magnus knew all of these things that he was willing to put effort into their relationship, their marriage, regardless of the bumps along the way.
Eyes widening at the sudden outburst, he tightened his hand in Alec's and moved the other to rest on Alec's thigh. "Oh Alec, I don't think you did anything," he said, trying to make it sound as sincere as possible. Before he could explain himself, though, Alec seemed to jump to the worst possible conclusion. "What? Darling, I know," he said, turning on the bed to face Alec and reaching up to cup his hand against the side of Alec's face. "I love you, sayang," he reassured him, brushing his thumb over Alec's cheek. "I was talking about Jace. I'm not entirely surprised he kissed you."
Taking a deep breath, he reminded himself that he was acting like an idiot. Magnus hadn't accused him of anything and there was no reason for his husband to doubt him. He'd been in love or infatuated with Jace but Magnus understood first loves and that Alec wouldn't have married him if there'd been any doubts about his feelings for Magnus.
"I know you were jealous of him sometimes. And you know about the crush so I wasn't sure if you'd think..." But he wouldn't. Jace was his parabatai and he wasn't interested in men. At least Alec had always assumed that. Jace had told him that once. Which made the kiss even stranger than it'd seemed when it'd happened and Alec had been trying to figure out what was going on with his parabatai.
Leaning into the hand on his cheek, he smiled at his husband, still nervous but certain that Magnus wouldn't be angry over his role in the kiss. "I love you too, karissima." Catching Magnus' hand, he kissed his husband's palm. "Why would he kiss me? I know he's been worried that he'll lose me but that's not a reason to kiss me."
Honestly, Magnus couldn't help worrying a little bit about the bond between Alec and Jace. As parabatai, they were connected in ways that Magnus would never have or even understand with Alec. There was also the bond they shared as two boys who had grown up together, becoming men and sharing so much history. And while most would simply label that kind of friendship as brotherhood, Magnus knew better than to dismiss something so deep so quickly.
"You thought I would assume you had feelings for him," he supplied when Alec's sentence faded off before completion. He didn't remark on his feelings of jealousy, knowing it wouldn't help to confirm them and that Alec would catch him in the lie of denying them.
Smiling at the tenderness of Alec's kiss to his hand, he felt himself relaxing at the familiar sensation of Alec's long fingers wrapped around his wrist. "I've been wondering if he might be harboring feelings for you," he said slowly, wanting to be honest but knowing that Alec was going to deny the possibility outright. It was difficult to imagine that the subject of one's affections was suddenly and secretly returning them.

After all, Alec had been the first thing that Magnus remembered when he'd come to in the hospital, the only person he'd recognized and felt drawn to after they'd both woken up and stumbled around their false home.

"To us."

"To us."

At the apartment - Around Aug 10th

I no longer feel like my suspicions might be based on only subjective observations."
no subject
You're the one I love the most."
no subject
Eyes widening at the sudden outburst, he tightened his hand in Alec's and moved the other to rest on Alec's thigh. "Oh Alec, I don't think you did anything," he said, trying to make it sound as sincere as possible. Before he could explain himself, though, Alec seemed to jump to the worst possible conclusion. "What? Darling, I know," he said, turning on the bed to face Alec and reaching up to cup his hand against the side of Alec's face. "I love you, sayang," he reassured him, brushing his thumb over Alec's cheek. "I was talking about Jace. I'm not entirely surprised he kissed you."
no subject
I know he's been worried that he'll lose me but that's not a reason to kiss me."
no subject
